India win SAFF C'ship

NEW DELHI: India hammered 10-man Afghanistan 4-0 in final to win the seventh SAFF Championship at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday. It was their fifth title for the defending champions. Star striker Sunil Chettri put the home team ahead in the 71st minute from the spot kick, awarded after Jeje Lalepkhlua was brought down by Faisal Safa. The incident also saw Afghanistan reduced to 10 men after their goalkeeper Hameedullah Yousufzari was sent off for arguing with the referee’s decision. India made the numerical advantage count to the fullest as they added three more goals. The second came just a minute after the first, Clifford Miranda scoring on an assist from Chhetri. Jeje made it 3-0, scoring again on a pass from Chhetry in the 79th minute. Sushil Kumar Singh compounded the Afghanistan misery scoring the fourth goal five minutes into the second half injury time.
