KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Club (NPC) began the seventh Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women’s Double League Volleyball Championships with double victory here today.
The departmental team started with a straight set 25-16, 25-19, 25-9 win over Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre before beating their archrivals Nepal Armed Police Force Club 16-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-22.
Likewise, Angels’ Heart and New Diamond Academy also won their respective matches in the inaugural day with both teams cruising to victory against Bijeshwori Gyan Mandir. Bijeshwori lost to Angels’ Heart 25-9, 25-12, 25-14 and later bowed down to New Diamond 25-14, 25-11, 25-7.
The winners and runners-up will receive Rs 220,000 and Rs 110,000, while teams rounding up to the seventh position are also assured of cash rewards. Best player of the tournament — decided through audience voting — will get a two-wheeler.
Dhorpatan TVS Player of the Year, which will be picked by a five-member technical committee of organisers Dhorpatan Sports Training Centre, will also get a two-wheeler.
Evaluation of Player of the Year will also focus on the performance of a player throughout the year.
