"Govt working to prevent 14-hour load shedding"

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Energy is carrying out necessary homework to ensure that power cut time does not cross the previous record of 14 hours a day. Currently, consumers are suffering 10-hour load shedding every day.

Speaking at the regular press meet organised by the Department of Information, Spokesperson of the Ministry Arjun Karki said the demand for electricity increases by 100 MW every year but failure to increase production accordingly is leading to rising hours of load shedding every year.

Efforts are being made to increase the transmission capacity between Nepal and India in order to import the 200 MW electricity agreed during Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai's recent visit to India, he said.

Meanwhile, according to information shared on the occasion 15 aspirants have applied for the post of Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority.
