'Khanal could be stripped of chairmanship'

KATHMANDU, AUG 04 - CPN-UML Advisory Council Chairman Siddhi Lal Singh warned that party Chairman and Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal could be removed from the post of chairman if latter refused to comply with the decision made by the party Central Committee (CC) meeting slated for Aug 6.

Speaking at a program organised by the Reporters Club in the Capital on Thursday, Singh, who is also a member of UML Disciplinary Council, claimed that Khanal breached the party Standing Committee decision by swearing in the Maoist ministers. He further claimed that Khanal will music for violating the party discipline.

“No one is above the party, not even Chairman Khanal,” he said. “Those who breach the party discipline will be penalised.”

He argued that no one can work against the party decision though the prime minister reserves the special right to new induct ministers.

The upcoming CC would intense discussions on breach of party decision by Khanal, Singh said, adding that the party could even call back Khanal from the government.

When asked if the UML CC meet would be put off this time as well, Singh claimed that the CC meet and Parliamentary Party meeting won’t be put off at any cost.
