KATHMANDU, AUG 29 -
Newly elected Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai took oath of office and secrecy at the Presidents office in Shital Niwas on Monday.
President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav administered the oath of office and secrecy to PM Bhattarai this afternoon.
Meanwhile, Bhattarai administered the oath to Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijay Kumar Gachhadhar amid the same ceremony.
UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, outgoing Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal, , chiefs of diplomatic missions, security council and officials of government offices, were present at the ceremony.
Bhattarai was elected the 35th prime minister on Sunday.
Bhattarai defeated his only rival Nepali Congress candidate Ram Chandra Poudel by margin of 105 votes.
Bhattarai was supported by the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM)—an alliance of five Madhes-based parties with 66 lawmakers in the Parliament—and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) and other fringe parties.
